Ladies & Gentlemen, Start Your Engines

The month of May is here and we are officially off to the races!

Anabelle's third spring recital was Friday and she rocked it! Hard to believe she's been in dance for three years. Here is a comparison over the years...

As I'm sure most of you know, the month of May is sacred in Indianapolis. The city packs the month full of fun to get us all ready for the Indianapolis 500 IndyCar race over Memorial Day weekend. This Saturday was spent being a part of that tradition as the One America 500 Festival Mini Marathon kicked off the start to the season. After lots of hard work our team, who raised $7,338 for the American Cancer Society, was ready to hit the pavement. I finished with a time of 3:07, after briskly walking most of the way, only jogging mile 3-6 after feeling guilty for a very long potty break.

35,000 people participate in the Mini. The race was long and hard, but we made it. Some things I learned and will take with me for the next time –
  • If at all possible, avoid the port-o-lets (duh)
  • If you MUST use the port-o-let, pick the line with the most men. It goes faster
  • Even though it's an athletic event, some people forget to wear deodorant (P-U)
  • No matter how many times "walkers to the right" is mentioned in the race packet, some (or most) people, will ignore and continue to walk as if they were in a crowded mall
  • If you are an arm swinger you are bound and determined at some point to hit someone in the crotch and/or chest area
  • Avoid arm swingers, you'll get nailed in the crotch and/or chest area
  • Coors light and Marlboro Reds are the breakfast of champions for residents on 10th St
  • Folks in the military, police and fire departments are rock stars… nothing more motivating than watching them run in full gear
  • Overall people are good-natured and kind-hearted. Especially in Nap-town
